Everything you need to know about WeRead

Getting Started

How does WeRead work?

Install the Chrome extension from the Chrome Web Store, then click the WeRead icon on any article you want to analyze. Within 3-5 seconds, you'll get an AI-generated summary, table of contents, and the ability to ask questions about the content.

How do I install WeRead?

Visit the Chrome Web Store, search for "WeRead", and click "Add to Chrome". After installation, you'll see the WeRead icon in your browser toolbar. Click it on any article to start analyzing.

What websites does WeRead work on?

WeRead works on most websites with article content, including Medium, Substack, news sites (NYTimes, BBC, etc.), blogs, research papers, documentation sites, and more. If a page has readable text content, WeRead can analyze it.

Do I need to create an account?

No account is required to use the free tier. If you upgrade to Pro, you'll create an account during the checkout process with just your email address.

Features & Usage

What features are included?

WeRead provides: AI-powered article summaries, automatic table of contents generation, Q&A functionality to ask questions about the article, note-taking capabilities, and PDF export (Pro only).

How accurate are the summaries?

Our summaries are generated by advanced AI models and are designed to capture key points accurately. They work best for informational content like news, blog posts, and research papers. For critical decisions, we recommend reading the full article.

Can I ask follow-up questions about articles?

Yes! After WeRead analyzes an article, you can ask specific questions about its content. The AI will provide answers based on the article text, helping you understand complex topics or find specific information quickly.

Can I save and export my notes?

Yes, you can create notes on any analyzed article. Pro users can export their notes as PDF files. Notes are stored locally in your browser, so they remain private and accessible even offline.

Does WeRead work offline?

The extension interface works offline, but analyzing articles requires an internet connection since our AI service processes the content on secure servers.

What languages are supported?

WeRead works best with English content but supports many other languages including Spanish, French, German, Chinese, Japanese, and more. Quality may vary by language, and we're continuously improving multilingual support.

Do you offer student or team discounts?

We don't currently offer discounts, but our Pro plan is designed to be affordable at $2.99/month. The free tier with 10 analyses/month is often sufficient for light users and students.

Privacy & Security

Is my data private?

Yes, privacy is our priority. We don't store article content or your notes on our servers. We only track anonymous usage statistics to enforce free tier limits. See our Privacy Policy for complete details.

Do you store the articles I analyze?

No. Article content is processed in real-time by our AI and is not stored on our servers. Your reading history remains completely private.

What data do you collect?

We collect minimal data: an anonymous user ID for usage tracking, email (Pro users only), and usage statistics (number of analyses). We don't collect browsing history, article content, or personal notes.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes, all payments are processed by Stripe, a PCI-DSS Level 1 certified payment processor. We never see or store your credit card details.

How can I delete my data?

To delete your data, uninstall the extension and email support@weread.com requesting data deletion. We'll remove all associated data within 30 days.

Troubleshooting

WeRead isn't working on a specific site. What should I do?

Some sites block extensions or have unusual page structures. Try refreshing the page, then clicking the WeRead icon again. If it still doesn't work, email support@weread.com with the URL and we'll investigate.

The summary seems inaccurate. Why?

AI summaries work best on well-structured articles. Very short content, image-heavy pages, or highly technical jargon may produce less accurate results. If you encounter consistent issues, please report them to support@weread.com.

My usage count seems wrong. How can I fix it?

Usage resets on the first of each month. If you believe there's an error, email support@weread.com with your anonymous user ID (found in extension settings) and we'll investigate.

How do I update the extension?

Chrome automatically updates extensions. To manually update, go to chrome://extensions, enable "Developer mode", and click "Update". You can also check for updates in the Chrome Web Store.
